Computer and network security is the branch of computer science that studies methods and techniques to protect critical information resources. This course introduces the foundational topics of computer and network security. Same as CSCI 6268.
Models of Communication Security Security Threats (e.g., spoofing, denial of service) Security Goals (e.g., integrity, confidentiality, authentication, availability) Basic Cryptography (symmetric, public-key, and one-way cryptographic functions) Basic Protocols (e.g., authentication protocols)
Student will gain a basic understanding of computer and network security.
To gain an understanding of the fundamental concepts concerning computer and network security.
Graduate standing; CSCI 5273 (Network Systems); good working knowledge of C, C++, or Java; basic knowldge of the IP protocols suite.

Examples of an appropriate person to proctor your exams/quizzes are your supervisor/manager, an education/training or personnel official in your company, or a librarian.
